Common problems in steel structure production

1. Analysis of quality problems caused by steel structure projects in Xinjiang

There are many reasons why it is difficult to guarantee the quality of steel structure projects in Xinjiang, and they are very complicated. They include problems caused by improper workmanship, problems caused by violations of process operations, problems caused by the technical level and sense of responsibility of construction personnel, and quality problems caused by mistakes by decision makers.

(1) Problems with steel itself

When a unit was processing 1200*1200*60 box columns of a building, it suddenly discovered during the welding process that the 60mm thick plate used as the web was torn. Clear cracks visible to the naked eye split the plate into two halves in the thickness direction. After NDT testing, it was found that the depth of the crack occurred at a depth of about 3mm. At the same time, parts cut from several other plates of the same type and batch number were inspected and it was found that there were interlayers in the plate. Poor rolling quality was the main reason for the quality problem. During the welding process, the interlayer materials are pulled apart due to the welding stress generated by the welding. As a result, the thick plate is torn in the thickness direction.

Reason analysis: Xinjiang Steel Structure Engineering Company said that due to the particularity of the use part, this part is used as a web in the component. The parts welded in the longitudinal and up-down directions have full penetration grooves in the welding form and are stressed stiff plates. Due to the stratification inside the plate, the welding stress generated by welding is released outward and tears the plate along the thickness direction.

The following measures can be taken according to the actual situation:

(1) The interlayers existing in a large number of steel products are quality problems caused by the steel mill itself during the rolling process and have exceeded the requirements of our country's standards and specifications. You can ask the steel mill to send someone to verify and negotiate with the steel mill for return or exchange;

(2) If the number of interlayers is small, the opinions of the technical department and the owner can be solicited, the information can be fed back to the steel plant, and construction remedial measures can be taken to solve the problems. Based on the results of non-destructive testing, all problematic parts can be gouged out beyond their own depth, and then filled with equal-strength welding materials. After completion, the surface can be treated, and NDT testing can be performed after the specified time. At the same time, the same components can be sampled for physical and chemical inspections. If they meet the design specifications, they can continue to be used;

(3) Cut off the parts under the witness of the supervisor and replace them with plates that meet the conditions. The replaced parts are used in non-load-bearing and non-important parts or as auxiliary materials. After completion, NDT testing is performed after the specified time and records are kept.
